Boeing: Flight Training Manager - Crawley

The Flight Training Manager is responsible for the management, development and oversight of a team of professional Synthetic Flight Instructors and Type Rating Instructors, delivering first class training to our customers.

Responsibilities will include:

·         Ensuring the Instructor team has the qualifications and resources necessary to deliver cost-effective, high quality, state-of-the-art instruction. Implementation of Company policies and procedures and setting of business goals to support performance management.

·         Management, development and administration of the Flight Training Support team.

·         Maintain pro-active co-ordination and communication with the whole team. Seek to maintain a high level of standardisation and ensure full compliance with customer and regulatory requirements in co-operation with HT, CFI and CGI.

·         Ensure the timely and accurate completion of student and instructor Training Records, certification and other required reports.

·         Maintain pro-active communication and participate fully in meetings with other departments to ensure close liaison and co-operation.

·         Manage the training, induction and qualification of new instructors and participate in the selection of new personnel. Manage the qualification training plan for new instructors and the recurrent training plan for all instructors, including PSIPs (Contract Instructors). Provide mentoring of instructors as appropriate.

·         Monitor instructor availability and qualification and liaise with Flight Training Support, Scheduling and TRM to ensure proper and timely scheduling, rostering and delivery of customer and internal training courses and recurrent checking and training.

·         Maintain and update as required all training and technical manuals in current use. Manage the updating, issue and training for student and instructor tablet PCs.

·         Assist the maintenance and development of training curricula and courseware.

·         Deliver instruction on Type-specific and non-technical courses as agreed from time to time with the Head of Training.

·         Conduct thorough and complete briefings prior to each training session, as well as debriefings and critiques at the end of each training session, to ensure that the customer is aware of their performance. Provide a brief outline of the training events for future sessions.

·         Supervise Flight Simulator Instructors and Flight Training Support team.

You should be able to demonstrate the following competencies:

·         Professional/Technical Expertise: Has thorough and current knowledge of the job; demonstrates a high level of technical and functional skills; keeps informed of latest industry developments and assists in updating and maintaining company courseware and manuals.

·         Organisation and Accomplishment of Work: Plans, prioritises and completes work efficiently and cost effectively; manages multiple tasks simultaneously whilst achieving expected quantity and quality of work. Must possess a self-starting work ethic with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.

·         Judgment: Identifies and diagnoses problems, assesses risk, including the investigation and resolution of training and performance problems. Able to consider the cost and benefit of a decision and suggest options.

·         Communication: Manages effective flow of information; uses appropriate style, grammar, and tone in both written and verbal communication. Contributes to meetings, and promotes the sharing of information across the business. Fluency in English is required, and a second language is desirable.

·         Customer Focus: Demonstrates a sense of urgency when working with both internal and external customers; available and responsive to client needs and wants, seeks to satisfy customer expectations.

Typical Education/Experience:

Five years experience with an approved TRTO or equivalent training organisation, including instructional and evaluation experience. At least two years of prior management or leadership experience in a pilot training environment. Possess appropriate pilot training experience. Possess current appropriate JAA TRE, TRI or SFI qualification.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Occasionally required to work in a confined space of a flight simulator, with a noise level that is usually moderate. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, colour vision, peripheral vision, depth vision and the ability to focus. Requires a range of body motion to perform the following: 1) reach, exert pressure and manipulate the rudder controls/brakes with both feet; 2) reach and manipulate numerous controls while on the flight deck; 3) enter and exit the flight deck of the simulator. Sometimes required to travel and stay away from home 15% travel.
