The professional will act as a key partner to local business leadership and will oversee legal and corporate affairs issues affecting Microsoft in the Vietnam. The position is based in Manila and will report to the Associate General Counsel for South-East Asia based in Singapore. Specific responsibilities of the position include: Ensuring Microsoft is in compliance with all laws and regulations, in coordination with HR, Finance and the business leadership; Managing local IP enforcement activities, litigation, and government investigations in close coordination with other regional LCA personnel; Supporting a wide array of commercial matters, including drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements, and providing advice across a broad range of subject matters including issues regarding intellectual property, competition law, marketing, and applicable regulatory matters; Representing Microsoft in external forums on legal, regulatory, investigative and similar issues; and Serving as a primary interface between Microsoft and senior levels of the Vietnam government on policy and legal matters, particularly those involving the protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights. The successful candidate will have a law degree. He/she will have at least 8 years relevant experience combining law, IP enforcement and public policy experience, ideally in the IT industry. Experience dealing with diverse cultures, particularly in emerging markets, is a plus. Fluency (written and spoken) in English is required. Position Profile Position: LCA Director, Vietnam Location: Manila Reporting to: Associate General Counsel for South-East Asia based in Singapore Key Areas of Responsibility: The LCA Director serves on the Microsoft Vietnam leadership team and acts as a general advisor to the leadership on all legal and corporate affairs issues, in many instances addressing novel legal, regulatory and policy questions as the technology business moves into new areas. This person coordinates with other Microsoft regional LCA staff, Microsoft subject-matter specialists and outside experts to ensure coverage of all legal and corporate affairs matters. The LCA Director has primary responsibility for ensuring compliance of Vietnam personnel with all relevant laws and regulations as well as with Microsoft policies. The LCA Director manages Microsofts local IP enforcement activities, working closely with the subsidiarys leadership and other local and regional personnel to ensure that Microsofts enforcement efforts are effective and in compliance with applicable laws and policies. The LCA Director is also a key player in Microsofts efforts to foster a local policy environment that is conducive to the protection of Microsofts intellectual property assets. The LCA Director supports local commercial transactions ranging from programmatic licensing agreements to more unique marketing and business arrangements. The LCA Director will help coordinate and integrate policy and government relations work with regional and local personnel involved in government outreach, including the Public Sector lead, the National Technology Officer, and the Public Relations lead. The LCA Director, with the help and support of regional corporate affairs professionals, creates ties with government officials as well as with industry and other third party organizations to support Microsofts local public policy objectives, including but not limited to those involving the protection and enforcement of intellectual property. Candidate Profile Key Experiences Significant experience in the legal department of an international company (or similar experience in a law firm). Experience managing and implementing corporate compliance initiatives. Significant familiarity with intellectual property laws and concepts. Experience handling or managing litigation. Experience handling intellectual property infringement cases and related criminal and civil litigation, and in working with law enforcement and customs officials preferred. A strong understanding of business issues and thinking, preferably in the IT sector. Strong analytical, negotiation and drafting skills. Experience dealing with diverse cultures and managing and building strong client relationships. Excellent team player with the ability to work and communicate with a large number of diverse people, including senior management, in a high-pressured business environment, with a flexible, open, collaborative and results-oriented attitude. A record of professional growth and success. Qualifications Eight years of relevant professional activity. Law degree. Excellent written and spoken English. The Successful Candidate Will: Have the ability to work proactively and independently while also being capable of working and contributing in a collegial team situation within the subsidiary and across the region. Help grow business opportunities through application of public policy and legal support. Manage a broad workload across legal and corporate affairs functions to enable and support Microsofts priorities in the Vietnam.
