Labels: , , , , ,

UK Airprox Board Inspector
£47,000 - £50,000 pa
RAF Northolt

The UK Airprox Board (UKAB) is funded jointly and equally by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and the Military Aviation Authority (MAA) and located at RAF Northolt. Its role is to improve Flight Safety by investigating the causes of Airprox occurrences in UK airspace and communicating the results to relevant sections of the UK air ‘industry’.

The role

Our Inspectors coordinate Airprox investigations, produce consolidated analysis of facts and present these for the assessment of cause and risk by the UKAB Panel. Following the Panel’s assessment, Inspectors write reports on each occurrence, identify lessons recognised then draft and follow-up on any recommendations.

Inspectors participate in relevant civil, military committees and working groups, effectively communicate the results of their investigations with relevant sections of the aviation community, which is as important as identifying the lessons to be learned.  All manner of communications are employed proactively and in response to requests for data and advice.

The ideal candidate

You will be a former aircrew member and have recent military flying experience, an intuitive feel for the air environment and proven analytical skills. Working as part of a small team, using your strong inter-personal skills you will forge diverse working relationships with UKAB colleagues, supporting organisations and a wide variety of industry colleagues.

The role will call for you to act with tact and integrity when reporting recommendations and detailing mistakes or gaps in procedures and regulations, utilising a firm but sympathetic approach.

Our reputation and credibility requires you to maintain high level knowledge of the Air Navigation Order and subsidiary regulations, operating/controller practices and technical developments.  You will make the most of your professional curiosity and with a willingness to embrace/lead change we expect you to identify and develop opportunities for improving processes and outputs.

It is essential that you write in a clear, concise, jargon-free manner to explain complex scenarios and analyses. You will conduct briefings and formal presentations with confidence, logic and fluency; and you will be expert in the use of MS Office packages.
